One of the biggest challenges I hear people face when it comes to creating blog content is time. Running your own business means it’s a precious commodity and, with everything else that needs to be ticked off on a weekly basis, it’s something which all too easily falls to the bottom of the priority list.
The sad part is that blog post writing is something most people say they enjoy. Taking the time out to create content is good for everything from your creativity to SEO but time always seems to find a way to make it seem impossible.
That’s why I’m sharing some tips on how to write blog posts quickly this week. I hope they help you to make your blog a priority if it’s something you love.
Batch write your posts
Writing a bunch of posts in one go might be time-consuming but it’ll actually help you save it in the long run. You’re much more likely to get a few under your belt if you dedicate a couple of hours to the task rather than a stolen 15 minutes here and there. Make writing them a regular part of your working schedule just like responding to emails and you’re sure to see the difference.
Create an editorial calendar
Planning in advance is a surefire way to save yourself time. I like to take half an hour or so a week to note down blog post ideas and put them into some kind of order. It saves me trying to come up with the ideas as well as the words once I sit down to write. If you can, come up with 3-5 points for each post once you have the titles organised. Outlining a rough structure will give you even less to think about and means you can really focus on the writing itself.
Use talk to text
If you find yourself in the ‘not enough hours in the day’ mindset all too often, making use of the talk to text feature on your phone could be something else you find useful. Maybe you’re walking to a meeting or are consumed in a photo-taking session. Either way, brain dumping your posts while you do is a great opportunity to multitask. When it comes time to publish, you’ll only need to tidy up your initial thoughts rather than starting from scratch.
Be realistic with your schedule
While this won’t technically save you time, being realistic about your schedule is necessary if you’re going to factor writing blog posts into it. If you’re really struggling to find time on a weekly basis to create content, publish a post fortnightly or even monthly. No time-saving tips are going to help make blog writing easier if you’re putting too much pressure on yourself to do it more often than you can realistically manage.
